China’s pure electric passenger car exports for the first eight months mainly grew in Brazil, Belgium, Indonesia, and Mexico. The declining markets are Spain, Thailand, the Netherlands, Australia, and Slovenia.

Previously, Tesla’s entry into China made Shanghai the lead region that exported the most NEVs to the overseas market. But recently, with the introduction of the European Union’s tariff policy, Shanghai’s exports have shrunk sharply since Shanghai is the export point for Tesla China and SAIC. In 2024, the regions with strong exports of NEVs are Guangdong, Shaanxi, Hebei, and Jiangsu. For example, BYD’s rise has driven the development of NEV industries in Shaanxi. Shaanxi is one of BYD’s largest production bases in China, with a planned annual production capacity of 1.5 million vehicles.
